Reporting to the PM Support Division Accountant, you will provide ongoing support to the Tax and Audit Department within the PM Division with regards to tax and audit matters. In addition, you will be involved in skills transfer and mentoring with the annual CIMA intake. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Tax Practitioner is responsible for registering all Bodies Corporate and Homeowners Associations for income tax with SARS, as appropriate, as well as assisting in the preparation of internal Body Corporate and HOA documentation for annual audit by external auditors.

 SCOPE

The Tax and Audit Administrator reports to the Property Management Support Division Accountant and is responsible for providing ongoing support to the Tax and Audit Department within the PM Division concerning tax and audit matters. The Tax and Audit Administrator will also be assisting in skills transfer and mentoring with the annual CIMA intake concerning the above functions within the property portfolio.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

Income Tax Registration      

  • Checking that all current and new buildings within property portfolio is registered for Income Tax with SARS
  • Requesting and preparing all documents required to register Schemes for Income Tax with SARS
  • Making appointments with SARS and submitting supporting documentation to SARS

Filing Tax Returns

  • Following up on signed financials
  • Calculating Income Tax as per the financials
  • Submitting IT14 return on e-filing, making payments with Portfolio Specialist approval
  • Ensuring Schemes’ Income Taxes are filed and paid by deadlines

Provisional Tax

  • Calculating Schemes’ Provisional Tax (First and Second) correctly
  • Submitting IRP6 via e-filing on Portfolio Specialist approval
  • Ensuring Provisional Taxes for Schemes are filed and paid correctly and by deadline

Annual Audits

  • Preparing general ledger and files for submission to auditors
  • Compiling all necessary documentation for audit purposes
  • Liaising with auditors regarding audit progress
  • Resolving queries from auditors
  • Maintaining records with regard to each building’s audit status

Queries          

  • Assisting and/or resolving all income tax related queries as raised by SARS, Trustees/Directors and auditors
  • Assisting HR Department with e-filing registration and access for buildings with employees for PAYE purposes

Loading Adjustments

  • Ensuring the system balances to financial statements

VAT

  • Calculating VAT using system information and ensuring correctness
  • Loading VAT adjustments
  • Filing VAT returns and making payment if applicable

Candidate Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

The applicant must have completed a minimum of Grade 12/Standard 10 (Matric).  The applicant must have an excellent command of English as written and spoken language and be professional and presentable at all times. A relevant Financial Qualification will be advantageous. Previous experience in a bookkeeping environment, taxation and auditing will be advantageous.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The applicant will be based in an open plan office or working remotely as per company specifications and schedules, and will be faced with constant interruptions from different role players. The applicant will be expected to spend some time assisting colleagues with the resolution of taxation queries on their portfolios.

The applicant will be working in a highly pressurized environment, with strict timelines and turnaround times, which may cause the applicant stress. The applicant is further required to work accurately with a minimum tolerance for errors.

The applicant will be required to deal with a wide variety of personalities on various matters.
